Chainsaw Man Episode One Review

A new version of the half-god tour

At first glance, ChainsawThe story seems relatively banal. Protagonist Denji is a young boy who hunts demons to repay a debt due by his late father to the Yakuza. One day, he concluded an agreement with the Devil Pochita, accepting the powers of the creature under the condition that he stands out from the Yakuza and pursues a normal life.

As with any anime, “normal” is not exactly in the cards for Denji. By merging with Pochita, it becomes half human, half devil. By pulling on a rope attached to his chest, Denji is able to invoke a chainsaw of his head and wreaking havoc on his enemies.

The trope of the protagonist at half-divill is not new, in no case. Anime as Devilman Crybaby,, Narutoand even the aforementioned Jujutsu Kaisen almost pushed the concept into the ground. However, what Chainsaw Lack of originality, it compensates for more with a clear writing, a smooth rhythm and a breathtaking animation.

A feast for the eyes

When Mappa’s name is attached to an anime, people tend to take note of it – and for the reason. A rapid search Mappa’s past works reveal a renowned anime cavalcade, Yuri !!! on the ice has Attack on Titan: the last season.

Although the studio has many competent writers and storyboard, Mappa is perhaps better known for its distinctive animation style. His shows are often associated with bright colors, expressive characters and the pace of the smooth butter frame. However, the prowess of the studio should not surprise so many surprises, since it has been founded by former Madhouse employees.

Chainsaw Increases the challenges of what could be expected from an adaptation produced by MAPPA. His action parts are breathtaking, and even his more deaf scenes manage to impress and surprise. Make sure you look on a large television screen – you are for a treat.

An early pretender for the anime of the year

We may be just an episode in ChainsawThe 12 episodes of 12 episodes, but the immediate impressions are promising. Mappa has made meticulous efforts to recreate the style and feeling of the original source material, and the result is something that anime fans will want to live by themselves.

Episode score: 9.5 / 10
